The Protocol Research Intentions

The group realized the need for knowledge on a number of protocols which would be involved in the VLAN project.

Although most of the group members were already familiar with some of the required protocols (Ethernet and IP) others still had to be understood which included:

Although all group members had previously touched on VLAN technology, a more in depth understanding was required in order to complete the project.

We researched the following hardware:

Selection of network monitoring software

The group needed to select a network monitoring tool which would measure traffic over VLANs.

We intended to consider a number of different network monitoring applications and choose the one that best suited our project requirements.

The network monitoring applications we are considering include:

Implementation of chosen network monitoring tool

Upon sufficient research and consideration of the appropriate network monitoring tool, the group would then install and utilize the chosen tool to measure traffic over the respective VLANs. In measuring the traffic over the VLANs, the group would generate and display statistics reflecting throughput.
