SomeLondonISP is one of the largest internet service providers in Southern Ontario. It has points of presence in several major cities, and provides both dialup and commercial internet services.
SomeLondonISP's London machine room is located in the basement of a building at the corner of Some Street and Some Avenue. This location housed the hardware with which we were to interact with in order to carry out our project objectives.
Our first meeting with Some included a whirlwind tour of the London facility. Some Person rapidly oriented us with the wide selection of equipment in the machine room, including:
Some Person spent more time on the hardware that was specific to our project. He pointed out the Cisco 2820 switch which creates the various VLANs used by SomeLondonISP's customers, and the Cisco 3600 router that routes the packets between them and SomeLondonISP's other connections.
The Cisco 2820 switch was connected to the high-speed WAN with a fiber-optic cable, and to the Cisco 3600 with a fast ethernet interface. A few other ethernet connections were also present at the switch.
